GATE 2018 Preparation Strategy, Books List – Important Tips To Crack GATE Exam – GATE which stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an important exam for all engineers who wish to pursue courses like Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Doctor of Philosophy. As the name suggests, GATE exam is an exam which tests the understanding skills in subjects of engineering and science.  GATE exam is conducted by IISc and 7 IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board. There are many students who wish to apply and appear for GATE but many of them fail to fulfill the requirements or the eligibility criteria laid down by the officials. GATE 2018 Age Limit:

  • One of the highlighting points of this exam is that there is no age limit barrier to appear for the exam. A candidate with a graduate degree irrespective of his/her age can appear for GATE 2018.

GATE 2018 Maximum Attempts:

  • Well, many have this question of how many times can I apply/appear for GATE exam? The answer to this question is also easy. There are no limits for maximum attempts. A candidate can appear for as many times as he/she wishes for.

GATE 2018 Qualifying Degree Criteria

  • The candidate must have a Bachelor Degree. This includes B.Tech/B.E./B.Pharm/B.Arch from any recognized University.
  • Either BSc. or Bachelor Degree in Science Research from recognized University.
  • The applicants having Master’s Degree in from any stream Mathematics/ Science/ computer or equivalent or Statistics or Five years B.S. / M.S. Progam or M.Tech or M.E. after BSc. Can also apply.
  • The applicants appearing in the final year of qualifying exam (Bachelor Degree) can also apply for exam. The candidate needs to provide the certificate from the Principal of University or College.
  • The candidates, who have passed the qualifying examination ie. completed the Bachelor Degree, need to submit their certificate or degree certificate or provisional certificate.
  • Sadly, candidates who are Diploma Holders are not eligible for the examination.

GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. The exam scores permit the student to apply for post graduation courses like Master of Engineering, Master of Technology. The GATE Exam tests the understanding of various subjects from graduation course in Engineering and Science. GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology – Guwahati, Bombay, Kanpur, Delhi, Kharagpur, Madras & Roorkee; on behalf of the National Coordination Board. GATE 2018 Exam Pattern

As we mentioned earlier, GATE is an online exam which grants the candidate a permission to apply for M.Tech/PhD programs in IITs, IISc and various other institutions in India as well as in some other countries. We have shared the syllabus above for all the 23 papers. Out of them, the candidate is eligible to appear for any one paper. Here we are sharing the paper pattern for GATE 2018.

  • The exam is conducted online only.
  • Total 65 questions of 100 marks are what candidate must attempt in 3 hrs.
  • The questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) & Numerical Answer Type Questions (NAT).
  • For MCQs, four choices will be available for the candidate whereas, for NAT type questions, the candidate must enter the real number as the answer with help of virtual keyboard.
  • GA section is common in all papers. It will contain 150 questions of maximum 15 marks.
  • The exam has a negative marking of 1/3 marks for questions carrying 1 mark.

Here is the Exam Pattern For All Papers Except GG, XE, XL:

  • The paper will consist of 30 questions of 2 marks each.
  • The candidate will also face 25 questions of 1 mark each.
  • 10 questions from GA is something which is common in each paper.

Exam Pattern For Paper XL:

  • Section P of Chemistry which is a compulsory section will contain total 15 questions. The 15 questions are distributed as 5 questions of 1 marks and 10 questions of 2 marks.
  • The common part of every paper – 10 questions from GA.
  • Any two of XL sections Q to U – Total 20 questions will be maximum a student will have to attempt in this section. The paper will have 10 questions of 1 mark each and 10 questions of 2 marks.

Exam Pattern For Paper XE:

  • Section A of Engineering Mathematics. This is a Compulsory Section. Total 11 questions will be asked. 7 questions of 1 mark each while 4 questions of 2 marks each. It is common to all candidates.
  • 10 questions from GA.
  • Any two of XE sections from B to H. Total 22 questions will be asked in this section. 9 questions of 1 mark and 13 questions carrying 2 marks.

Here is Exam Pattern For Paper GG:

  • Part A of this section will contain 25 questions of 1 mark each. This part is common for all candidates.
  • 10 questions from GA.
  • Part B also contains 30 questions of 2 marks each. This part has two sections, section-2 is of Geophysics and section-1 is of Geology.

GATE 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Be sure that you meet all the needs of eligibility criteria before filling up the forms for GATE 2018.

Educational Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must be a bachelor’s degree holder in Technology, Architecture or Engineering or must be in the final year of these mentioned courses. The student needs to fulfil educational qualifications such as 4 years after 10+2 or should be Post B.Sc or Post Diploma.
  • Even students pursuing the final year of Masters degree in Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or Masters degree holders can apply for GATE 2018.
  • If the student is pursuing 4-year integrated Master’s degree program, he/she needs to be in second or higher year in order to be eligible of GATE 2018 exam.
  • Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year integrated master’s degree programs or Dual Degree programs in Engineering/Technology.

If the candidate meets all the eligibility criteria, he/she can apply for the upcoming GATE Exam. To appear for GATE 2018, the candidate must fill up the GATE 2018 Application Form.   • For registration process, the student needs to enter an email address, mobile number and GOAPS password. After entering all details, do click “Submit”.

  • Once Registered, the applicant needs to click on “Edit Application Form”.

  • After submitting the exam centre preference, do fill up all the personal information which includes date of birth, family details etc.

  • Once done with personal details, the candidate must declare his/her educational qualifications.

  • Enter the address details along with the address proof document. The document can be PAN Card, Aadhar Card or any other document where the address is mentioned.

  • After completing the required details comes the most important part. The candidate must upload his/her scanned images (photograph, signature, thumb impression, degree certificate).
  • The scanned photograph of the candidate must be 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm.
  • The scanned signature of the candidate must between 80 x 280 and 160 x 560 pixels. The document must be in JPG/JPEG format. Similar size and file format is applicable for thumb impression as well.

  • After submitting scan copies, just make the payment which will complete the application process. The payment process can be done through Netbanking, Credit Card or debit card. The registration fee for GATE 2018 is as follows:
